Privacy Policy

SpareCam uses account and device data to connect your phones in Cloud-Assisted mode. Event recordings stay on the Camera phone. A direct WebRTC connection is preferred; an encrypted relay may carry a live stream when direct routing is unavailable.
1. Information we collect
We collect the information needed to operate the mode you choose.
Cloud-Assisted mode
- Your email address and account authentication record
- Server-issued identifiers for registered and paired devices
- A push-notification token used to deliver motion alerts
- Pairing and trust records linking your Camera and Viewer
- Motion-event metadata such as the event time and Camera device
- Short-lived service logs and scrubbed crash diagnostics
LAN-only mode
LAN-only mode does not require a SpareCam account. Pairing identity, trust records, events, and recordings for that mode are kept on the phones involved in the local setup.
Optional website analytics
If you select Allow analytics on this website, we use Google Analytics to understand visits to public pages and interactions with download, beta-access, and support links. This can include the page path without its query string, referral source, general browser and device information, approximate region, and the time of an interaction. Google may set Analytics cookies after you consent. We do not send email addresses, support-message text, password-reset tokens, account IDs, or device IDs to Google Analytics.
Website analytics is optional. No Google Analytics tag or request is loaded before consent, and declining does not limit the website. The SpareCam app does not include Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics SDKs.
Information we do not use for advertising
SpareCam does not sell personal information or use your Camera video to target advertising. The app has no advertising tier.
2. How live video works
SpareCam uses WebRTC with DTLS-SRTP encryption. A direct peer-to-peer connection is attempted first. Network address translation, firewalls, or carrier routing can prevent that direct path; in those cases, an encrypted TURN relay may carry the stream. Relayed media is not stored as a cloud recording by SpareCam.
LAN-only mode communicates over the available local network between authenticated paired devices. It does not provide remote viewing when the phones are on different networks.
3. Events, recordings, and local storage
Motion events are detected on the Camera phone. In Cloud-Assisted mode, event metadata can be synchronized so the Viewer can show the event and deliver an alert. Motion-triggered recording files and their preview images remain in SpareCam's app storage on the Camera phone. A paired Viewer may request media from the Camera and keep a local cache or an exported copy.
Deleting a server-side account does not automatically erase files stored on either phone. Use the in-app reset and deletion controls, then uninstall if you want to remove local app data from a device.
4. How we use information
- Authenticate accounts and registered devices
- Pair Camera and Viewer phones and route signaling
- Deliver requested motion notifications
- Maintain service security, reliability, and abuse prevention
- Investigate crashes and support requests
- If allowed, understand which website pages help visitors and whether they reach a download or contact action
- Meet legal obligations where they apply
5. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may use narrowly scoped infrastructure providers for hosting, notifications, email, and crash diagnostics. If you allow website analytics, Google Analytics processes the limited website information described above on our behalf. Advertising storage, ad personalization, and Google Signals are disabled. We may disclose information when legally required, to protect users and the service, or with your explicit consent.
6. Retention
- Account and pairing data is retained while the account is active.
- Verified account-deletion requests are processed within 30 days.
- Backend request logs are retained for up to 3 days.
- Scrubbed crash diagnostics are retained for up to 30 days.
- Google Analytics user and event data are configured for a retention period of 2 months.
- Backups expire on a rolling cycle of no more than 90 days.
- Local files remain until removed from the relevant phone.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete personal information. You can also choose LAN-only mode instead of creating an account. Send privacy and data requests tosupport@spare.cam.
You can change your website analytics decision at any time withAnalytics choices in the footer. Stopping analytics removes Google Analytics cookies that this website can access and prevents new Analytics requests on later page loads.
The supported account-deletion process is described on theAccount & Data Deletion page.
8. Children's privacy
SpareCam is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe such information has been provided, emailsupport@spare.cam so we can investigate and delete it.
9. Security
We use encrypted transport, device authentication, pairing trust, access controls, and limited retention. No system can guarantee absolute security. Protect both phones with current software, a device lock, and a private account password.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the product, providers, or legal requirements change. The latest version and update date will remain available at this URL. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through the account email.
